This post is going to be slightly all over the place… but at least that will accurately represent how I’m feeling on the inside (hopefully not for long). For some context, I have maybe slept a total of 5 nights in my Vancouver apartment over the last month and a half. I feel like I’ve been on the go for the last two months, and have barely had time to spend time at home, which in theory should be kind of wonderful.
However, I am definitely a homebody by nature, and have always needed a sense of calm and serene around my house. In those 5 days that I slept at “home”, I felt frantic, and overwhelmed. Anyways, this is all a long story to tell you that I am moving next month, and I am absolutely ecstatic about it. Over the last year now, I've been living in 3 different places where I truly felt as though I could not do my job for 2 reasons. Lack of storage, and lack of lighting. After signing this lease (in somewhat of a panic due to a sublet ending) I realized that this apartment was not a suitable working environment for me either.
With that being said, I feel an apology is overdue also for the lack of content, and content I am proud of across all platforms, not just Substack. I truly believe our environment has such a large impact on how we live our lives daily, and I am almost in disbelief that it took me 10 months to realize it was eating away at me. I appreciate you sticking with me through this, more than you will ever know. While I haven’t found the perfect place to live yet, I am manifesting for something that meets all my requirements (ample storage, and natural lighting… lol), and have high hopes it will pop up in the very very near future.
I am a little bit too excited to bring you along in this new space. I have a good feeling it’s going to spark new creativity, and bring back old motivation when it comes to getting dressed.
New space… new decor dreams *all of my furniture will be coming with me, no need to stress here*. Here’s what I have my eye on:
The first stop on this tour of things I hope are in my home in the very near future, are all from the SSENSE home section. Let me just say, it is so fun being an adult and getting excited about a beautifully curated home-decor catalog.
I am fascinated by Scandi/Japanese inspired home decor. I also appreciate both minimalism and maximalism and feel like I fall right in the middle. I love trinkets, and bowls, and little random catchalls around the house… but I also despise when a space feels way too cluttered. I think my theme for this new apartment is chrome + wood with little stints of colour popping about the house.
From left to right: Ferm living table lamp, bowl, basket, mugs, stemware, Tekla towels, candle holder, Dusen Dusen throw blanket, cookware and salt & pepper grinders.
When I’m scrolling on TikTok, or Pinterest, the homes that always stand out to me are the ones with what seems like hundreds of lamps sprinkled around the space. I’m really not a fan of overhead lighting, and strive to avoid it as much as possible. I will hilariously opt to work in a dark room if there’s no lamp. I certainly see an abnormal amount of lamps in my near future to capture this ambience that’s always stopping me in my tracks.
Clearly there’s a theme going on here with warm lighting, velvet chocolate brown & green tones, and chrome.
From Left to Right: Rice paper lamp, chrome coffee mug, Kitchen Aid, velvet throw pillow cover, wooden shelf, wooden bowl, chair, metal side table, chrome shelf, Gantri lamp, bath towels.
I’ll be back with a clothing wishlist in the next few days too. It feels good to want things again. It’s fun to dream.
