In Residence with EQ3
What my current space looks like, and what my future space will look like.
Furnishing (and designing) my own space, has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Growing up I spent countless hours flipping through the hundreds of House & Home magazines inside my parents house, and cozying up to my Mom while she watched HGTV before bed. I attribute my obsession with clean, aesthetic, and incredibly cohesive interiors to both my Mom, and my Uncle (her brother)… clearly it runs in the family.
Every furniture purchase I’ve ever made begins with mood-boarding, hours spent watching Architectural Digest and The Local Project Youtube videos, and about 100 visits to the exact same showroom to ensure I’m making the right decision.

I am absolutely infatuated with wooden accents within the home. Whether that’s a wooden coffee table, wooden shelving or a completely wooden interior. Wooden accents provide a sense of calm and serene to me. I’m drawn towards wooden interiors, because of the warmth and comfort. It is almost as if there’s a connection to nature throughout the accents of the home, that could not be achieved otherwise.
This is why I was led to EQ3. Upon my first visit to the showroom, I was captivated by how different the shades of wood complimented different textures, and felt a wave of calm when I was envisioning these pieces in my home. The first piece I knew would become apart of my home from EQ3 was the Ban Coffee Table. The slatted design caught my eye instantly, and I truly believe it is the focal point of the living room. It became my mission afterwards to shop for pieces that would be complimentary to my dream coffee table.
I visited the showroom on Granville Street (perhaps too many times) to really solidify my choices, and ensure that I could see myself growing from apartment to apartment with these pieces. During my trips, I could slowly start to envision how I wanted my space to flow.
Strategy had to come into play, as I was not working with a large apartment. In Vancouver paying a disturbing amount of money, for a disturbingly little amount of square footage is considered “the standard”. However, thankfully I did not have to compromise aesthetic for function. EQ3 has size options for most of their pieces, ensuring they can fit perfectly into both your cozy shoebox apartment, or your beautiful family home. I opted for the small Ban Coffee Table, an 8x10 Serene Rug (in the colour Jade), the Tube Lamp and the 92” Era Sofa in Maria Pearl.

The Era Sofa might take the cake for the most comfortable couch I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting on. I knew that a love seat was all I had room for in my apartment. However, after seeing the Era Sofa in person I quickly realized this wasn’t your traditional couch. With reclining seats and an adjustable headrest movie-watching is taken to the next level, and maximum comfortability will be achieved. To be completely honest with you I only realized the headrests were adjustable 1 month ago (3 weeks after my couch had been delivered), and it changed my life.
Since I work from home, and do content full time… technically my living room also acts as my office. I have never been one to have a proper desk set up (this probably should change in the near future), even as a kid. I needed to find a dining table, that was compact enough for my apartment but also large enough to host friends, and use as a workspace. This led me straight to the Kacia Dining Table. I wanted to keep on the wooden theme to tie the whole space together since my living room/dining room/kitchen is all one room. I’ve certainly lived in furnished spaces previously that I felt did not have congruent furniture, so it was extremely important for me to keep this room cohesive. I went back and forth with chairs for a long time, and opted for a sleeker look with the Tami Dining Chair. The black wood compliments the table so wonderfully, and adds some depth to the apartment.

Now we move onto my bedroom, where again, we keep on theme with wooden accents. I’m not sure what it is about apartment buildings and having little to no closet space but as a girl who has perhaps one two many sweaters, a dresser was an absolute necessity for me. The Stage Double dresser is sleek, spacious, and acts as the perfect temporary bedside table in my bedroom. On top of my dresser is where I keep my skincare, cameras, a The Local Project book for some pre-shut-eye manifestation, my journal and the Verve Lamp. I am really not the biggest fan of overhead lighting unless it’s crucial. One day I think I’ll end up having 10+ lamps spaced around my bedroom, but right now the Verve Lamp is providing all the ambience I need.
Above my dresser I have the Puddle Mirror hanging. The wall above my dresser seemed as though it was missing something. I tried photos, and something was still off to me. The Puddle Mirror was the perfect match and created my dream faux-vanity.
Last but certainly not least, my bed… my favourite place in the entire house. If I had it my way, I think I could spend weeks on end in my bed without moving. This has always been a symbol of what makes a place feel like home to me. My bed at my parents house (my childhood bed), is my serene, safe space. There is nothing more rewarding than crawling into a plush, cozy bed at the end of the day (or the middle of one). Something I hold so near and dear to my heart, had to be accompanied properly. That’s why I chose the Boom Bed (in the Walnut finish also) to be the lifelong partner to my mattress. The Boom Bed has a sleek, low-profile headboard, and a platform design. My bedroom has to feel warm, cozy and serene. It’s my place of rest, and relaxation. I chose the walnut finish for both the dresser, and bed because that’s what walnut embodied to me, warmth.
Furnishing a small space is truly no task for the faint hearted. Thank you EQ3 for all of the lovely furniture- I can’t wait to make memories at my kitchen table, and take many many naps on my sofa in my current, and all of my future apartments.
