Summer dressing used to be a back-burner thought to me. Yes, I longed to be tanned and to swim in the ocean, but I never enjoyed dressing for the season. I used to dream of a time where I could layer jackets over sweaters over t-shirts, and wear my favourite toques and boots. I’m pretty sure I just expressed the most un-popular opinion known to mankind.
I was the opposite of “it was almost like winter didn’t count, summer was what mattered”. I still am a winter girl… that will never change. But why can’t I be a summer girl too?
This is the first summer (for as long as I can remember) that I am excited for summer dressing. I feel secure in the purchases I’m making (this is why), but I’m also not afraid to branch out.
How I’m describing my summer dressing this year: Airy Shirts and Mini Skirts, getting wined & dined on the French Riviera but the only shirt I own is a white tank top, pyjamas outside, frolicking through the mountains and Sporty girl on her way home from Pilates.
Perhaps some of the above contradicts itself, that would be pretty on brand for me if it did. But I do intend to encapsulate each of those vibes within the next few months.
I am feeling so incredibly drawn to skirts this season. I mean you might as well show off your legs while they’re beautifully bronzed. I’ve been prancing around in this sparkly number from Zara (this is what I mean by branching out), and felt so validated when a woman on her bike screamed across the street “ I LOVE YOUR SKIRT”, at 1am. Additionally on the skirt front, I am DYING over this Gimaguas mini, pretty much every bottom from Doen (here, here, and here), Beach House bathing suit that doubles as a skirt (I have one in brown that a friend thrifted), and of course a classic black mini (bonus points when they have shorts underneath).
White tank tops, and white t-shirts are usually my forte, but this summer wants me to tap into the girly side of myself that is often neglected.
I have never felt more inclined to buy something than this tank from Doen. The Marle top pictured above. Perhaps the most adorable shirt I’ve ever laid eyes on, and a whimsical Reformation number. I’m not done my hunt for airy tops, we’re only just getting started. However, I would NEVER neglect the tank/tees in my closet. Here are some of my current fav’s:
Leset margo tee, Okay to Rest tee, Sporty & Rich wellness tee, Merge hemp tank, Sold out NYC tank, and pretty much any longline tank-top from Brandy Melville.
Summer hasn’t officially begun in Vancouver, so I haven’t found myself diving deep into the outfits I’ve planned. When it comes time to finally wear the summer looks I’ve been dreaming about, I promise you’ll be the first to know.
What are you excited to wear this summer?

I absolutely dread summer and live for those first days of autumn when it’s finally all over for another nine months. I can’t bear the heat and and a big part of it is the dressing for it. But for the first time this year I’m not hating my summer wardrobe so much because I’m just leaning into the wider trend towards comfort, with oversized shirts and loose trousers. And thinking finally it’s ok to not really give a damn and to stay covered up because now it looks intentional!
